IT’S THE NATIONAL NUCLEAR ARCHIVE, BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT...

The process to get an archive for nuclear records is gathering pace, and Keelagher Okey Klein have recently been appointed as Health and Safety Consultants / CDM Co-ordinator for the project.

After discussions with The National Archives (the official archive for the UK government) the NDA owned facility in Wick is now going to be known as the NDA Archive, managed by NDA Archives Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the NDA.

The archive is going to be home to all of the important digital and photographic records from nuclear sites, potentially numbering in the tens of millions.

The design and build of the archive will be awarded by June 2015 so it can be built and capable of receiving records from Q3 2016/17.

In the meantime, identifying what will be held in the building is on the to-do list. This is a significant task with the aim of reducing the current volume of paper records stored around the Estate from some 500,000 to around 100,000 boxes.
