Free Access To Ordnance Survey Data

May 29, 2013 |

Following extensive consultations, the public has been given free access to certain Ordnance Survey data in what the Department for Communities claims to be a ”˜historic milestone on the road towards transforming Britain into a 21st century digital economy’. Information relating to administrative boundaries, postcode areas and mid-scale mapping will be among the data that is freely available for use and re-use for applications such as ”˜fix my street’ or ”˜crime mapping’.
There is also potential for start-ups and companies not currently active in the geographical information market to create new commercial products. ”˜Mapping data and geographic information from OS’ is available at: www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/opendata “Policy options for geographic information from Ordnance Survey ”“ consultation: Government response” is available athttp://tinyurl.com/yfagyp3 – pdf (Ordnance Survey; tel: 0845 408 1895)
